How campus events go live, stay private, and become a library.
A video platform for education has three jobs: broadcast the event, control who can watch, and keep the recording useful afterward. Here is how each works on Castr.
Go live
-
Any venue, one workflow
Graduations, lectures, athletics, and training all follow the same path: an encoder sends RTMP or SRT to Castr, and the event plays in the player embedded on your site.
-
Social simulcast
Public ceremonies can reach YouTube and Facebook at the same time as the campus player. Plans include 6 to 30 destinations account-wide, with higher counts available on request.
-
Pre-recorded premieres
Schedule a produced program, like a virtual commencement, to broadcast as a real live stream at a set time.
Control access
-
Password protection
Gate any stream or hosted video with a password, included on every plan.
-
Domain and geographic rules
Lock playback to the LMS or portal domain, and allow or block countries when enrollment requires it.
Premium and higher.
-
LMS embedding
The player embeds in any LMS page that accepts an iframe, including Canvas, Moodle, and Blackboard content pages.
Keep the library
-
Automatic recording
Each stream records up to 72 hours and stays available for three days. Save it to hosting to keep it permanently.
-
Folders and playlists
Organize the archive by department, course, or season, so next semester's students find last year's material.
-
Captions and transcripts
Generate captions with AI and give viewers interactive transcripts on hosted videos.
Paid plans. AI-generated captions are available in English only.
Analytics retention is 30 days on all published plans, so semester reporting should export what it needs within that window.

Operator fit
Designed for recurring, accountable video work.
Operational complexity matters more than company size. The strongest fit is a team with a named owner, a repeatable schedule, and a real consequence if delivery fails.

Switching to Castr
Switch platforms mid-semester without disrupting a single lecture.
You do not have to cut over blind. Run Castr in parallel with your current provider while you test, and let our video team confirm the fit before anything switches.
Run in parallel
Lectures and ceremonies keep running on your current platform. In parallel, stream a low-stakes campus event through Castr, and students and families see nothing until you swap an embed.
Map the workflow
Share your event calendar, LMS and portal embeds, privacy requirements, and archive plans with our video team, and they confirm which plan covers the campus.
Cut over with support
When you are confident, swap the embeds on your event pages and portal one at a time. 24/7 human support stays on hand through the first campus broadcasts.
Build the complete workflow
Connect this capability to the rest of your operation.
Questions before you choose
Evaluate the workflow with confidence.
Feature and plan availability changes by tier. Use the full matrix for comparison, or let our team validate a complex setup.
How do we live stream a graduation ceremony?
Send a camera feed from the venue to Castr over RTMP or SRT and embed the player on the ceremony page, so families watch on the school's own website while the same feed reaches YouTube and Facebook. The ceremony records automatically, and saving it to hosting keeps the replay available for relatives who missed the moment. The same workflow covers convocation, baccalaureate, and every other ceremony on the academic calendar.
Can we stream campus athletics?
Yes. The same account covers the season: stream games over RTMP or SRT, embed the player on the athletics site, and keep replays in the library. For monetization and fan-facing workflows, see the sports streaming solution.
Can lectures stay private to students?
Yes. Password protection is included on every plan, and Premium and higher add domain allowlisting, so a lecture embedded in the LMS or student portal only plays there, plus geographic rules when enrollment requires them.
Does Castr work with our LMS?
The embedded player works in any LMS page that accepts an iframe, which covers Canvas, Moodle, and Blackboard content pages. Domain allowlisting can lock playback to the LMS domain, and API access on Premium and higher supports deeper integration.
How long are recordings kept?
A recording captures up to 72 hours per stream and stays available for three days. Save it to your hosting library to keep it permanently, which is where the campus VOD archive lives, organized into folders and playlists.
Can recorded events be organized for later viewing?
Yes. Saved recordings live in the hosting library with folders and playlists, and hosted videos support AI-generated captions and interactive transcripts on paid plans, with captions generated in English.
Can multiple departments share one account?
Yes. Additional team members are included on Premium and higher, 3 on Premium and 5 on Ultra and Events, so media services, athletics, and continuing education can operate their own streams under one account.
Can Castr support both public and private education video?
Yes. Public ceremonies can stream openly on your website, while training and lectures sit behind password, domain, or geographic controls.
Can Castr help us validate our current workflow?
Yes. Castr’s video team will walk through your current setup, from sources and destinations to audience scale, security, and monetization, and confirm the fit before you migrate.
