How FressiTV brings live classes and on-demand workouts into one membership platform
Finnish fitness brand Fressi has been using Castr since 2020 to power daily live classes and on-demand workouts inside FressiTV.
A fitness membership built around video
Fressi is a Finnish fitness and wellness brand offering gym access, group exercise, and digital training.
Its digital service, FressiTV, lets members train “wherever and whenever.” Members can join instructor-led classes live or pick from an on-demand library of free and subscriber-only workouts on their own schedule.
Two viewing expectations inside the same membership
A live class is a fixed promise. When the session starts, members all press play at the same minute. If the stream isn’t ready, they miss the start, and there is no way to give that moment back.
The on-demand library works the other way. Members drop in at any hour, scroll through pages of recorded sessions, and expect a workout to play the instant they click.
Fressi needed both workflows to run reliably through the same embedded player inside FressiTV, across phones, laptops, and TVs.

A generic video player could not handle FressiTV's mix of recurring live schedules, on-demand catalogs, and custom casting requirements.
Fressi needed a platform that could support both delivery types while working directly with their team. The partnership began with live streaming and expanded naturally as the digital fitness library grew.

Fressi has partnered with Castr since 2020, starting with live streaming for European audiences and later extending into on-demand workout hosting.

With live classes running on a regular schedule, Fressi needed a reliable setup that its team could reuse for every session without rebuilding the stream from scratch.
The studio feed connects through regional ingest servers, which take in the stream close to the source for a stable connection. Castr delivers the broadcast over HLS with adaptive bitrate streaming, which adjusts video quality to each member’s internet speed so classes keep playing on weaker connections.
And if a live class cannot go ahead as planned, Fressi can slot a pre-recorded workout into the schedule so members still get their class on time.
Hosting live and on-demand workouts in a single catalog
Not every customer can join at the scheduled time. Some return to a favorite class; others choose a workout around the time and space they have available.
By extending Castr to its video library, FressiTV can keep live and on-demand content within the same branded member experience.
A library behaves differently from a schedule, though: it keeps growing, and every recording has to stay findable and ready to play long after the class it came from was broadcast.
A player that fits FressiTV, on every screen
Members can watch on their phones or laptops, or cast workouts to their TVs using Chromecast or AirPlay. Fressi needed a player that worked well across these devices and fit the look and feel of its platform.
Castr worked with Fressi to customize the embedded player, making adjustments to loading performance, thumbnails, poster images, and casting. This gave Fressi more control over how members watch workouts, while keeping the experience consistent with the rest of FressiTV.
Handling high-traffic special events
The regular class schedule is the center of FressiTV, but some live events attract more attention than an everyday session.
When Fressi hosted a high-traffic broadcast, the stream ran on the same Castr setup the team uses for its everyday schedule, without needing a separate event workflow.
Castr’s team stayed on standby from start to finish, monitoring stream health in real time as more viewers tuned in.
