How FressiTV runs live classes and a workout library as one service
Since 2020, FressiTV has used Castr to run its live class schedule and workout library as one experience, whether a member joins a class, picks a recording, or casts a session to the TV.
A fitness brand where video is part of the membership
Fressi is a Finnish fitness and wellness brand offering gym, group exercise, recovery, and digital training experiences.
Through FressiTV, which Fressi describes as a way to train “wherever and whenever,” customers can join instructor-led classes as they happen or choose free and subscriber-focused workouts from the on-demand library when it suits their schedule.
Classes need to begin when expected, recorded sessions need to be easy to find, and playback needs to fit naturally across the devices customers use at home.
Two viewing expectations inside the same membership
Live classes create a fixed promise: members expect the session to be ready when the schedule says it will begin. On-demand viewing is different. Customers expect to browse, choose, and play a workout whenever they have time.
Those two promises pull in opposite directions. A scheduled class concentrates demand into a single minute and leaves no room to recover if the stream is not ready. The library spreads that same audience across the day, and is judged instead on how quickly a page full of recordings starts to play. Both had to run through the same player.
Members do not see the infrastructure behind a class. They simply expect the experience to be ready when they are.
The priorities
- A repeatable workflow for scheduled live classes
- An on-demand library within the same member experience
- Playback across desktop, mobile, Chromecast, AirPlay, and TV environments
- Adaptive video quality for different viewer connections
- Casting and embedded viewing inside FressiTV
- Backup programming and support for time-sensitive broadcasts
Fressi needed video infrastructure that could grow with the member experience
A generic video player would not address the full shape of FressiTV. The service combines a recurring live schedule, an on-demand catalog, casting, backup programming, and playback requirements that are specific to the product.
Castr could support that mix and work directly with the Fressi team as the experience developed. The relationship began with live delivery and expanded because the same foundation could serve the wider membership journey.
A shared foundation for the schedule and the library
Fressi has used Castr since 2020, beginning with live streaming for EU audiences and later extending to its on-demand workout library.
That progression brought scheduled classes, recorded content, embedded playback, casting, backup programming, and technical support into one video workflow behind FressiTV.
The FressiTV experience stays inside Fressi’s own digital environment, while Castr powers the video delivery layer behind the scenes.
Today, Castr supports FressiTV from ingest to the member’s screen:
Regional ingest options
Scheduled live class delivery
Video hosting and on-demand playback
Adaptive viewing across connection conditions
Embedded and cast-enabled experiences
Custom player and embed optimization
Pre-recorded backup programming
Direct technical support
Turning a live schedule into a repeatable routine
A recurring class schedule cannot be managed like a series of one-off events. FressiTV needed a setup the team could use again and again without rebuilding the delivery path for every session.
Castr provides that foundation through regional ingest, HLS delivery, and adaptive playback, backed by a direct support line on Slack and WhatsApp during class windows, so the team can focus on the programming members come to watch.
Making recorded workouts part of the same journey
Not every customer can join at the scheduled time. Some return to a favorite class; others choose a workout around the time and space they have available.
By extending Castr to its video library, FressiTV can keep live and on-demand content within the same branded member experience.
A library behaves differently from a schedule, though: it keeps growing, and every recording has to stay findable and ready to play long after the class it came from was broadcast.
The library is no longer a separate technical workflow. It is the other half of how members use FressiTV.
Meeting members on the screens they already use
Members may join from a phone or laptop, cast a workout to a larger screen, or browse a page containing many recorded sessions. The player therefore had to feel like part of FressiTV, not a separate video destination.
Castr worked with Fressi on embed performance, thumbnails, poster images, casting, and other player behavior so the viewing experience could fit naturally within FressiTV.
Using the same foundation for peak-audience moments
The regular class schedule is the center of FressiTV, but some live events attract more attention than an everyday session.
When Fressi planned an event expected to draw far more viewers than a normal class, Castr was on standby from the start, watching stream health in real time as the audience climbed.
An event like that usually pushes a team toward a separate provider. Fressi did not need one: it ran on the same delivery and support line as any other class.
Keeping a pre-recorded backup in the schedule
If a live class cannot proceed as planned, Fressi can place a pre-recorded session into the schedule. This helps preserve continuity for members without relying entirely on a live studio feed.
One coherent video experience for members
FressiTV now supports scheduled and on-demand programming through one video partner, while keeping the viewing experience inside its own membership product.
Run recurring live classes through a repeatable setup
Keep recorded workouts alongside the live schedule
Offer free and subscriber-only workouts from the same library
Adapt playback to different devices and connections
Use pre-recorded sessions when live plans change
Work directly with Castr as product needs evolve
Castr now serves as a long-term video infrastructure partner for FressiTV, supporting both live and on-demand fitness experiences.
One member journey, wherever the workout begins
FressiTV continues to build its live and on-demand programming on the same Castr foundation.
The schedule can grow and the catalog can deepen without changing what sits underneath. Members feel that as more to choose from, not as a change in how FressiTV works.
